"Just do it!" is a logo for a famous athletic shoe company, but many times it's much more than a slogan to the athlete. It becomes an important part of his/her life. I found that to be true this week in Liberia. It rained every day (until today) since we arrived in the country. That makes it extremely difficult to put in a running workout in this war torn country.
To begin with, there aren't many places to run. And when it rains every day and you are on a tight schedule, it becomes almost impossible. Therefore, when a break in the rain came and I was back at my hotel, I knew I needed to run. The only place to do it was on the street in front of the hotel.
"But there are potholes and mud holes, and cars will splash water all over me," I thought. Yet, I knew that I needed to workout. The Texas State Senior Games Track and Field Championships are nine days after I return home. I desperately needed to workout.
After considering what I should do, the phrase, "Just do it!" entered my mind. I decided to leave the comfort of my hotel and run. I dodged potholes, encountered speeding motorcycles, and had some mud slung on me. But I did it. I ran.
After the workout, I thought about my life as a follower of Jesus. So often I want to serve Him when the weather is good. I want to serve Him when there's a nice place to do it. I don't want to get dirty. I just want a nice comfortable workout in the kingdom of God.
Yet, if we are to run as champions, we must be willing to leave our comfort zones and just do what we know God desires. That is the only way to train for the race of life. Just do the will of God, no matter what the weather brings you. Just do it!
