| Moses' Faith - Life On the Edge |
Moses became a man of God by faith. Every act in which God used Moses was an act of faith. Every miracle that he experienced was wrought by faith. Faith is the common denominator in every victorious man and woman.
The Bible points to three specific choices in which Moses acted in faith. First he chose a new identity. The Scriptures say, "By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter" (Heb.11:24 NIV). Moses faced an identity crisis. How would he be known - as the son of Pharaoh's daughter or as the son of a Hebrew slave? Ultimately, Moses made the right choice. He chose identity with God's people.
Many believers live in defeat because they've made the wrong choice about their identity. They're ashamed to be identified with Christ and His people. Consequently, they're always defeated. If we are to walk in victory, we can not be ashamed of the Savior and His people.
Moses also made a choice about what was really important in life. His faith led to a very high system of values. Values are simply those things which are important to us. As long as he lived in Egypt, he had the wrong set of values. God brought him to a place in his life where he had to choose - fame and fortune or persecution and disgrace. Moses chose the latter, and he ultimately became one of the most famous men in all of human history. Seeking fame and fortune always looks good on the outside, but they are rotten on the inside and eventually will drag a person to defeat. On the other hand, obedience to God at any price appears difficult and often dangerous, but leads to life and victory and can possible lead to the fame that we refused to seek. The Bible says that Moses "chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward" (Heb. 11:25, 26 NIV).
Finally, Moses chose faith over fear. He chose to trust in the One he could not see over fearing one who he saw everyday. Satan would have had Moses to keep his focus on the King. Instead, he kept his eyes on the King of Kings. "By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible" (Heb. 11:27 NIV).
Many Christians begin well in their walk with God, but finish poorly. Fear cripples them. Perseverance is produced by faith. Fear and faith can't live in the same house. Faith leads to victory over a life time. It's a matter of choice. Moses chose to look to God. What's your choice?
