| Call to Brazilian Leaders for Revival |
Sammy Tippit spoke to nearly 3,000 leaders of the Brazilian Baptist Convention, calling them to revival in their personal lives. He spoke to the leaders at their 90th annual convention held in Cuiaba, the capital of Matto Grosso.
Many of these Christian leaders, who came from every region of Brazil, could be seen openly weeping during the meetings as Tippit shared his story of spiritual renewal in the midst of cancer. The San Antonio, Texas evangelist preached each morning to the delegates and shared from the book of Hebrews about the “race that God has called us to run.”
The leaders were very receptive to the message. It seemed as though the work of God in the hearts of these Brazilian leaders grew daily. On Monday morning, Tippit asked those to whom God had spoken to stand and make a commitment to God. More than half of those in attendance stood and prayed with the evangelist.
Many asked God to deepen their prayer lives. Others asked God to renew their hearts. One pastor said, “Today God has renewed my soul, and that means that my ministry is revived.”
Many pastors told Tippit of the ongoing fruit of his ministry in their regions of Brazil. One man said, “I grew up in a family that was very involved in crime. I have four brothers who were all assassinated by bandits. I was headed for the same future. Then ten years ago I heard you preach, and I gave my heart to Christ. It changed my life forever. Later, I heard you preach again, and God called me to preach. Now, I am studying in the seminary and will graduate soon. And now God has revived me as I listened to you today.”
A leading pastor from Recife told Tippit, “Our region is filled with the fruit of your ministry. We have pastors who were converted under your ministry. We have missionaries who came to Christ through your ministry. It has been exciting to see the fruit remain and multiply.” Tippit spent time with leaders making plans for more evangelistic meetings in Brazil. He said, “I pray that many years from now there will be more pastors and missionaries from this great nation who came to Christ in our meetings.”
