| Genuine Worship |
I was shocked when the Hindus began to applaud. It was good news to them. And it is good news to all people. True worship flows like a mighty river from the heart that has received God's grace. When we behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, we become true worshipers.
This is the truth that over the centuries has stirred the Christian church to genuine worship. Count Ludwig Von Zinzendorf, the great Moravian leader of the eighteenth century, was dramatically affected when he realized this beautiful truth. He saw a portrait of Christ with the inscription, "Christ dying on the cross." He looked at the picture and read, "I did this for thee, what wilt thou do for me?" The rest of his life Ludwig would confess, "I have but one passion, it is He and He alone." When our hearts have been made clean by the love and grace of God, we too, will have but one passion: the love and adoration of the lovely Lord Jesus. Not long after I came to know God's love and forgiveness in Jesus, I was listening to a song which spoke of the nature of Jesus. It said that He, the Son of God, could have called ten legions of angels to take Him off the cross. But in His wonderful love, He died for us. That evening I went to a nearby lake and spent the rest of the evening in prayer. As I meditated on the cross, I could only weep. I thought of the infinite love that God has for us. Love and worship for Jesus began to pour forth from my heart as I realized that He is so wonderful.
I began to worship Him but not because I feared Him. Nor was it because I thought He would punish me if I didn't worship Him. I worshiped Him because He alone is the One worthy of my worship. And the worthy One loved me long before I ever considered worshiping Him. How good He is!
The Lamb of God is the center of worship in the book of Revelation, as the people of God gather around the throne of God. There is one common denominator in all true worship: the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
So many times Christians are divided by forms of worship. We are divided by cultural, racial, generational, national, and denominational methods of worship. However, our unity as Christians will never be found in the exterior form of worship, but in the essence of our worship. Worship is rooted in who Jesus is. I am convinced that if we focus on Him, we will better love and appreciate one another. I travel quite often among different cultures, nationalities, ages, and racial groups. I have found people in all those groups whose lives have been changed by the marvelous grace of God. It is this grace that has made them true worshipers. I have learned to love and appreciate people of different backgrounds and forms of worship. It is the love that flows from the Lamb of God that brings us together and makes us one.
One day all of God's people-from every racial and ethnic origin and from every generation-will gather around God's throne. We will all sing the theme song, "Worthy is the Lamb." It will be interesting to learn of the work of grace in the hearts of so many saints throughout so many generations.
