Resurrection and Revival in Ireland Print E-mail
The Bangor Convention in Northern Ireland sponsored by the Faith Mission has been an annual conference for decades which has provided great Biblical exposition. Its rich history has resulted in great moves of God throughout Ireland and Scotland. Duncan Campbell was God’s instrument to spark a revival in the Hebrides Islands several decades earlier. Campbell was at one time the Principal at the Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh, Scotland.

This year, Sammy Tippit was one of the speakers at the Bangor Convention, which is held annually during the Easter weekend. The San Antonio, Texas evangelist spoke nightly at the large Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church and during the day at the Trinity Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church in Bangor. Crowds of believers from throughout Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and England attended the session. Patrick McElligott, who served as a missionary in Japan for over 30 years and presently a co-pastor of a Baptist church in Redding, England, also was one of the keynote speakers at the Convention.

Tippit’s and McElligott’s messages seemed to compliment one another. McElligott challenged the Christians of Northern Ireland to be filled with the Holy Spirit. He encouraged them that “they could do nothing without His empowering.” Meanwhile, Tippit called the believers to personal revival. Tippit shared the story of what has taken place in his life over the past nine months. He told of the great personal revival that has been taking place in his life.

There was a “Youth Mix” each night following the main service at the Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church. Tippit spoke on Monday night and numerous young adults made commitments to Christ. Tippit shared his testimony of salvation and an experience of revival early in his Christian life. One young lady told Sammy and Tex Tippit that she grew up in a missionary family and had attended numerous conferences, but that she had never attended a conference like this Bangor Convention.

Monday night hosted a very large crowd at Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church. Because of a full house, the doors had to be closed fifteen minutes prior to the beginning of the meeting at the Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church where Tippit spoke. The presence of God was evident at Hamilton Road as Tippit spoke. People’s hearts and eyes were captured as the Texas evangelist spoke about the necessity of revival. Many indicated a need to surrender their lives to God.

Not only did many believers celebrate the resurrection of Christ at Bangor during the Easter weekend, but many celebrated with a heart that had been revived.
