Sammy Tippit Ministries Board of Directors have just concluded their annual board meeting. There was a sense of excitement over the release of the Praying for Your Family materials. One board member said, “I have never had a concentrated time in which I focused completely on my family to study the Scriptures about praying for my family and then spend time praying for them.”

That same sentiment was in all of the board members hearts. The materials became available to the public a week after the Board of Directors meetings. They consist of a book written by Sammy Tippit, a workbook, and a DVD. Each piece of the materials can stand on their own, or they can be used together. Sammy Tippit said, “They are most effective when used together.” Tippit released the following letter to pastors and leaders.

Families throughout America are hurting, and God has provided us a resource to bring healing to those hurts - prayer. However, so few Christians have appropriated its power. I’m convinced that the great need of the hour is to challenge, teach, and train God’s people to pray for their families.

I am enclosing a sample of some materials that we produced to minister to the families in your church. As you know, there has been an incredible attack on family life in America, and it has reached critical proportions. My heart longs to see revival in the land, and I believe that revival must begin in our hearts and homes. We desperately need a revival that helps hurting homes and mends broken families.

I’m convinced that such a healing of family life can only be done by a deep work of the Spirit of God in our homes. That will take place with a concentrated effort to mobilize people to pray in a Biblical and effective manner for their families.

God has raised up many wonderful ministries to address the needs of families during these days. However, I have found it quite interesting that I have only been able to find a handful of materials that challenged and taught people to pray and seek God on behalf of their families.

Unfortunately, the collapse of the Christian family in our generation is in full swing. That is why I’m convinced that we must challenge and teach people to pray for their families. And that’s why I have produced these materials. The book will inspire and challenge people to pray for their families. The workbook will cause them to study the Scriptures for themselves. And the DVD has some of America’s finest men and women of God speaking on the materials found in the book and workbook.

The vision came into focus while speaking at a conference at Billy Graham’s training center, The Cove. God touched my heart deeply after hearing Pastor Jim Cymbala speak about the miraculous work that God did in his daughter’s life. It was a result of his prayers and the prayers of his church. Pastor Cymbala asked those in attendance with wayward children or grandchildren to come to the front of the auditorium so that we could pray for them. More than 85% of those in attendance responded. These were the crème de la crème of God’s servants - pastors and leaders with a heart for God and passion for revival.

At that moment, I realized that there was a great need for someone to challenge, teach, and train Christians to pray for their families. God began to speak to my heart about writing a book, Praying For Your Family. As I returned to San Antonio and prayed about this vision, God continued to give me direction. Christians needed tools that would help them to know how to pray Biblically. Thus, the vision expanded beyond a book to include a workbook and DVD. Here’s what you will find in the tools.

Workbook: This guide will help you to study what the Bible says about Praying for Your Family. You will find probing questions and Scriptures that speak to the needs of our families. There are seven weeks of study that parallel what I wrote in the book. Each week contains five days of lessons. This will enable you and your church members to go through the material in your private devotional life.

DVD: The video also parallels the book and workbook. God has blessed Sammy Tippit Ministries with colleagues who are willing to allow us to use some of their experiences and expertise that will inspire and instruct. They will minister along with me. Pastor Jim Cymbala shares the story of his wayward daughter returning home. Dr. Crawford Loritts tells a story about his father that dynamically illustrates the “Father heart of God.” The Francis Asbury Society gave us permission to use a tremendous message by Dr. Dennis Kinlaw, a great Hebrew Scholar and former President of Asbury College. Caron Wise shares a remarkable story of God answering her prayers. Your people will be blessed by what they learn.

The book, workbook, and DVD can be purchased separately or as a set. Each stands alone in assisting you in your prayer life. Yet, they are most effective when used together. I recommend that every person desiring to learn how to pray for their family do one of the following three things.

First, commit yourself to pray for your family and then use the book and workbook for your personal devotional life. Second, encourage your small groups, Bible studies, or Sunday School classes to go through the series. You would only need one DVD for the entire group. Each person in the group could individually get the book and workbook for private study. Third, the DVD will enable large groups, even entire churches, to go through the materials. A movement can be launched in your church or Bible study groups. We have done our very best to keep the price of these materials very affordable.
