Sammy Tippit was among speakers at the Southern Baptist Convention activities in San Antonio, Texas this week. Southern Baptist Evangelists sponsored a worship service on Sunday morning, June 10 at the Lila Cockrell Theater in the Convention Center complex. Nearly 800 pastors and denominational workers who arrived early for the convention attended the service.
Tippit was the final speaker of the three evangelists who brought messages that morning. The San Antonio evangelist extended an invitation at the close of his message and many pastors and leaders responded. Tippit preached on the necessity of revival in the family. He called the leaders to extraordinary prayer for their families. Many leaders came to the altar weeping and seeking God’s face.
The Sunday morning worship service wasn’t the only meeting in which Tippit shared his passion for revival. Life Action Ministries sponsored a forum on “Revival” at lunch on Tuesday. About 130 pastors came with a heart to hear from the panelists who included Dr. Roy Fish (Distinguished Professor of Evangelism at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary), Dr. Tom Elliff (former President of the Southern Baptist Convention), Dr. Ronnie Floyd (pastor of one America’s largest Southern Baptist churches), Steve Canfield (Evangelist for Life Action Ministries) and Sammy Tippit.
Panelists discussed the condition of the church in America and the need of revival in the land. Dr. Floyd told of his journey in extraordinary prayer. Dr. Fish said that churches today need to see the great love of God. Elliff spoke of the darkness of the hour while Canfield shared his heart for churches in America. Tippit drew from his experiences overseas.Tippit said, “I believe that there is great hope for revival in America, especially in the ethnic communities.” Dr. Fish then said, “I agree. I believe there is hope.” Dr. Floyd then said, “I second that motion.” Revival in America. We can all hope for it. We must all pray for it.
