Dallas Revival Print E-mail

God placed it in the heart of Kyle Martin to challenge the church in Dallas, Texas to pray for revival. Martin, who has just completed his Masters Degree at Dallas Theological Seminary, felt God's call to challenge the Evangelical Community in Dallas to seek God for 40 days.

It seemed like an impossible task to bring the entire community together. However, God blessed this young man with favor and wisdom in putting together the meetings. He was able to secure a tent and put it in a strategic location near downtown Dallas. The tent sat on a lot next to Starbucks Coffee Shop.  Across the street one direction was Criswell College and on the other side of the street was Dallas Theological Seminary. Students and professors from both institutions participated in the meetings.

Martin, with the support of his local church - Dallas Bible Church - brought together churches from different denominations, racial and social backgrounds to lead the meetings. He secured 39 different speakers to speak - a different speaker nightly at the tent. Additionally, he had seven different churches to lead the 6:30 a.m. prayer meeting - each taking a particular morning of the week, and also seven different praise groups similarly led the worship services during the evenings.

Sammy Tippit opened the meetings the first evening. He challenged those in attendance to pray for a mighty outpouring of God's Spirit. Many people responded to Tippit's message.  Many came to the altar to seek God for revival during the time of invitation. Tippit described the meetings saying, "I was very encouraged by what I saw. There were people from Baptist Churches, Charismatic churches, and Bible churches who came under the banner of the cross to seek God for a mighty revival in Dallas.

There was no charismatic personality who drew the people. They came for one reason. They were hungry to see God send a spiritual awakening in Dallas." Tippit noted that both the Louisiana meeting and the Dallas meeting had some common characteristics. They both had the same vision that brought America to revival in 1857. That historic revival was basically a prayer revival. This year is the 150th anniversary of that revival. People seem to feel that God is up to something during these days.

Tippit said, "In Dallas, there were African Americans, Anglo Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans all present seeking God. There were former drug addicts and CEOs of companies all under the same tent.  The tent was full, not only of people from diverse backgrounds, but full of God's presence. That gives me hope - hope for America, hope for our families, and most of all hope for a revival in the land."
