More than 1,000 pastors and leaders gathered from all six nations in
East Africa and one country in Western Africa. All came with a need to
be encouraged and revived in their ministries. The meetings were held
at the Gaba Community Church in the suburbs of Kampala, Uganda. Pastor
Peter Kasarivu organized the meetings in which Evangelist Sammy Tippit
and Pastor Steve Troxel ministered.
A spirit of revival captured the hearts of these East African leaders
as the two men from San Antonio preached and taught the Word of God.
The majority of those attending the conference came from Uganda.
However, a few hundred traveled from the Democratic Republic of the
Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Nigeria.
Tex Tippit and Connie Troxel, wives of the two keynote speakers,
ministered to many of the leaders wives each afternoon. God blessed in
all of the sessions.
Every morning and afternoon, Pastor Troxel taught pastors and
encouraged them in their walk with God. At the end of May, Troxel
retired from more than 30 years of ministry at Wayside Chapel, a large
Evangelical Free Church in San Antonio, Texas. He shared with the
leaders the many difficulties that a pastor faces, and how to deal
effectively and Biblically with those difficulties.
Tippit preached in the mornings and then spoke to the leaders and
people from the community each evening. Hundreds of pastors, leaders,
and church members made commitments of their lives to Christ during the
evening meetings. Tippit preached on the subject of Revival in the
Family. He challenged the leaders to pray for their families.
Delegations from the various regions of Africa met with the two San
Antonio ministers to discuss the possibility of holding a similar
conference in their nations. Some came from war regions of Uganda and
Congo. Others came from nations being rebuilt, such as Burundi and
Rwanda.
Tippit preached at Makerere University on Thursday evening. Thousands
of students gathered at the University swimming pool for a meeting
dubbed as “Prime Time.” The San Antonio evangelist preached about the
true purpose in life. He challenged the students to find purpose and
meaning in life. Many of the students prayed with Tippit and invited
Christ into their lives as Lord and Savior.
The team traveled home to Texas on the weekend. They were tired and
exhausted, but filled with God’s peace. Tippit said, “It was such a
great joy to see so many pastors and leaders with a great hunger in
their hearts for God’s Word. It brought great satisfaction to my heart
to be able to encourage and feed these men and women the Bread of
Life.”
