Sammy Tippit Ministries sponsored a conference for 1,600 Christian leaders in north central India during January. The majority of these leaders were church planters, evangelists, Bible teachers, and pastors in one of the least Christian areas of India. Steve and Connie Troxel joined Sammy and Tex Tippit in ministering in one of the darkest regions of India.
The hunger among the participants was so great that nearly three hundred people had to be turned away. The conference was scheduled for only 1200 leaders. However, around 1900 showed up the first day and there wasn't room to feed and house the overflow crowd. In spite of the crowded situation, the attendees came with heart that were passionately seeking God.
One Christian leader said, "I came with the men from my area, and we were told that there was not room for us. We prayed and I sensed that God wanted us to be at this conference. We shortly thereafter received a phone call telling us that they had found room for our group. God has worked in our men in a mighty way. He has placed a fire in our hearts. We needed that fire. We have been persecuted. When we would sing in our meetings, those who opposed us would come and force us to stop. This has been very encouraging to us.”
One Christian worker said, “It has been a blessing to so many believers. This type of meeting normally only takes place in South India or in the capital city - Delhi. It was an encouragement to see so many people gathered for such a conference like this in northern India.”
One key organizer was so moved by what transpired that he prayed at the close of the meetings with tears flowing down his face. “Oh God,” he prayed, “I commit myself to spend time every day of my life worshipping You.”
An American Christian working in the area said, “The people came here because they were hungry and thirsty. They were given tools that will enable them to go back to their villages to do the ministry that God has called them to do.”
Christian leaders came from as far north as Nepal and as far south as Delhi. God worked deeply in all of their lives. Sammy Tippit gave an invitation at the close of the conference for the leaders to surrender themselves fully to God. Several hundred responded and came to the front of the auditorium weeping and giving themselves to God. A spirit of revival gripped the leaders.
