Calling for revival in South Africa Print E-mail

Heart Cry for Revival – Friends of Sammy Tippit Ministries will recognize that name as a conference which STM has cosponsored with other like minded ministries at Billy Graham’s training center, The Cove. However, the Heart Cry conferences taking place at the moment aren’t happening in the mountains of North Carolina, but rather down under - in the nation of South Africa.

Francois Carr, director of Heart Cry – South Africa, invited Sammy Tippit and other speakers from Canada, South Africa, and Ukraine to go into leading churches in South Africa and call for a prayer movement and revival. John McGregor and Gerhard du Toit from Canadian Revival Fellowship, are also speaking. Igor Yaremchuck, President of a seminary in Kiev, Ukraine, is also participating in the meetings.

Tippit preached in Alberton Christian Center on his first day in the country. God moved in the services and the altar was filled with people seeking the face of God. The meetings then moved to the Pretoria area. Tippit, du Toit, Carr, and pastors from the large Moreleta Reformed Church led a prayer conference on Friday and Saturday for prayer leaders of the mega Moreleta Church.

The team fanned throughout the Pretoria area for meetings in local churches. Reports were coming in that lives were being changed and people were seeking God for revival. Tippit said, “God has worked in each of the services. The altars have been filled with people seeking God. I believe that God is up to something special in South Africa.”

Tippit gave sent the following report to friends and staff about one incident that happened at one of the churches.

“I will share one small blessing that happened on Sunday evening,” he said. “I preached in a large Dutch Reformed Church that evening. I asked the friend who was bringing me to the church to check out a road on the way so that I could find a good jogging path for my Monday run. He did and then he began to ask me about my running. I told him that I was planning to run the Greek marathon.”

“When we arrived at the church, he told the pastor. And the pastor then publicly asked if there was someone present from the local high school who could get permission for me to run on the track, and one of the students said that they would do that. The student went to the largest Africaans speaking high school in South Africa (about 2500 students).”

“God really moved in the services among the people. (He has really worked in all of the services since we have been here.) But after the service Sunday night, two students came to me and we made arrangements to go to the school and run at the track. One of the students said, ‘If you are coming to run at our school, would you speak to the students before you run?’”

“I said, ‘Sure, but is that possible?’”

“The student said, ‘Oh, there won't be any problem.’ I then asked how many students would be able to gather for this meeting, and he replied, ‘All of them.’

“So, I went to the school at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning and 2,500 students had gathered and I preached the gospel to them. A number of them prayed with me asking Christ into their lives.”

“Afterwards, I went and did my run at their track. I was so blessed because it was my running that God used to open the doors for the gospel. I don't want to just run, but I want to run for the glory of God. So, it was really a blessed time.”
