Sammy Tippit Ministries has just concluded a series of evangelistic meetings in war torn Sudan. Thousands gathered in the fields of Juba, the capital of Southern Sudan, to listen to good news. People have been devastated by more than twenty years of war. Their hearts have been traumatized. However, Sammy Tippit and his team brought a message of hope and a way to rebuild the nation. Tippit told the large crowds that gathered, "God longed to build a new foundation for Southern Sudan. But that foundation can only be built in the hearts of the people in this nation."
Not only did STM conduct evangelistic meetings, but they also led a pastors' conference. Joseph Karasanyi, a Rwandan pastor who has worked with STM in the past, prepared the meetings. Karasanyi told pastors in Juba, "God worked in a wonderful way after Sammy Tippit came to my nation, and I know that He will do the same here in Southern Sudan." Thousands gathered daily in the fields in the center of Juba, and many responded.
A team accompanied Sammy Tippit to Juba to minister in a country that is attempting to lift its head out of the ashes. Mani Erfan, a businessman from Houston who translates for Tippit for his Iranian broadcast spoke to the pastors as well as Caleb Bistow, a youth evangelist with a heart to reach the unreached peoples of Africa. Both men shared their vision at the pastors conference and their testimonies at the evangelistic meetings.
Erfan encouraged the pastors with a message of hope. He gave his testimony about the work of God in his life. He told how he grew up as a Muslim, but then came to Christ as a young man. Bistow challenged the pastors and leaders to have a vision to reach people that no one else cared about.
Tex Tippit spoke to a women's conference on Saturday morning. Many of the women have experienced multiple tragedies as a result of the war. Mrs. Tippit told the ladies that God is the Master Potter and that they were His clay. She challenged them to allow God to mold their lives and make them women who would change their world.
Sammy Tippit spoke to the pastors about their vision. He challenged them with a greater vision. He said, "Any vision less than God, Himself, is too small. We need a vision greater than evangelism; greater than big churches; greater than the rebuilding of a nation. We need a vision of God. When we see Him, we will do the work of evangelism, our churches will explode with growth, and God will lead us in rebuilding the nation."
The final meeting on Sunday evening was with church leaders. Sammy Tippit spoke to the group about a defining moment in the life of a leader. He shared about the life of Moses and his meeting with God. "Once Moses met God on that mountain, he would never be the same," the Texas evangelist told the leaders. "It was a defining moment in his life and he became one of the greatest leaders in all of human history. Your defining moment will come from your having met with God." Pastors and leaders were thrilled with the work of God in their midst.
STM asks our friends to pray for Southern Sudan and the leaders who will follow up so many who came to Christ. Pray for a mighty revival in Southern Sudan and pray for peace in the land.
