Jesus sends us into a dark world, surrounded by evil and danger. We are
the Father’s sheep and there is a pack of wolves ready to devour us.
The wolves are called Rejection, Persecution, Insecurity, and Fear.
However, the Great Shepherd, Jesus, promised to be with us. The wolves
flee from the face of the Great Shepherd.
When Tex and I first began to minister in Romania, we met secretly with some university students every day in the mountains. We taught basic principle so discipleship and witnessing. One girl, Lydia, had a tremendous hunger for the Word of God.
One day Lydia had a fever. We told her she must not climb the mountain, but she said, “I must. I must learn how to tell my friends about Jesus.”
A year and a half later, I met with those same university students. They told me how brave and bold Lydia had been as a witness. I asked Lydia if she had a particular method. “Oh, no. I just try every day to yield myself to the Holy Spirit, and He gives me courage. One day I was witnessing to a girl in the university, and I thought she was very interested in knowing about Jesus. However, I later learned she was with the secret police. It frightened and discouraged me.”
I asked Lydia how she overcame that fear.
With a smile she said, “The Holy Spirit who lives in me gives me the courage to continue.”
