Chapter 1: A Call to Worship (The Need to Worship)
I have traveled to many nations throughout the world, and in people of
every culture I have discovered this same basic need to worship. It is
present in the most obscure tribal people to the most sophisticated
urbanites in the western world. There is something within man that
says, "I want to know the unknown. There must be something bigger and
greater than myself." People consequently find themselves worshiping
gods of wood and stone, governments, gurus, or political and social
leaders. The need to worship is one of the greatest needs of humanity.
Life took on an entirely new dimension. I had discovered why I was
created: I was born to know, love, and worship the Lord God. I began to
witness to my friends and colleagues - not as an obligation of the
Christian life, but as an act of worship. I knew Him and simply wanted
others to know Him.
During the summer of 1965 I knelt at the front of a large church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
In those quiet moments, I bowed before the creator and placed my trust
and confidence in His Son, Jesus. My life has never been the same.
