"Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path" (Ps.119:105).
The
human heart desperately cries out with the need for security. People
attempt to build their futures around two gifts in life that tend to
make them feel secure.
First, they seek security in other people. The only problem is that all people have one tragic human flaw: sin. Sin causes the bottom to fall out of our security because sin brings death. Therefore, one day we'll lose those who make us feel the most secure. Also, sin brings disappointment. Because of the fallen nature of humanity, our friends and family will eventually fail us. Absolute security can't be found in people.
Second, people attempt to find security in material possessions. There's a tendency to think that nicer homes, bigger automobiles, and higher salaries will produce the kind of security we need in our lives. However, after several years of observing people from all walks of life, I've drawn one conclusion: there's no industry or occupation that can guarantee security.
Why is it that people, positions, and possessions can't give assurances of absolute security? They can't predict the future. The Scriptures, however, introduce us to the God who is eternal. He existed before we were born and will live after we are dead. He knows every part of our genetic makeup. He is fully aware of our strengths and our weaknesses. He is not only fully knowledgeable of history, but history is really His story. He knows everything about everyone who has ever lived. And He holds the power to order the events of our lives. He can mold our destiny and mend our past.
The Word of God guides us to the path upon which this eternal, almighty, omniscient God desires us to walk. It's the light which directs us through the dark and dangerous times of life. It's the only place to find true security. The heart that has found its security in God will certainly be a worshipping heart.
