As we start a new year, the world desperately needs to see men and women of God. Darkness seems to be engulfing mankind at this critical hour of history. Therefore, men and women who are God's instruments will be a bright and shining light at the midnight hour. Therefore, we will be looking devotionally this year at the lives of men and women of God.
It's often been the case where a man of God achieved greatness because he had parents of faith. Such was the case with Moses. Moses is considered one the great men of all times. Yet, he could have never become what he was without the prayers and faith of godly parents. The Bible says, "By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict" (Heb. 11:23 NIV).
Every man or woman of God needs an education. But the kind of education necessary for the making of a servant of the Lord is different from schooling within society. The world's school gives people information. God's school provides life experience. One goes to the world's school in great institutions and fine buildings. But he learns in God's school on the playing field of hard knocks and humbling encounters. On completion of the world's school, a person has a degree. On completion of God's school, he has character.
In the life of every great leader there is a defining moment. Without that defining moment, people have a difficult time following the leader because they don't understand him. It's difficult for them to comprehend what makes the leader tick - why he does what he does. A defining moment is a time which sets the direction for one's leadership. It's that which characterizes the passion of one's life.
