I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. (Rev. 19:11 NIV)

Have you ever wondered why Jesus was so upset with the religious leaders of His times? He forgave prostitutes, healed the sick, and set the demon possessed free. But He continually rebuked the religious scholars. What was it that upset Jesus so much about the Scribes and Pharisees?

I believe the answer to that question lies in who He is - His Divine character. He once said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." The divine nature of Jesus is that He is complete truth. There's no falsehood in Him. He's ultimate reality because everything about Jesus is true. In fact, one of the names ascribed to Jesus in the book of Revelation is that of "True." When truth comes into the presence of falsehood, the two cannot stay in close quarters with each other. Truth is light and falsehood is darkness. And light and darkness can't dwell together.

The sinners, the sick, the rejected, and the demon possessed were in a terrible situation in their lives. But they understood the reality (or the truth) of their situation. They knew that they needed help. They understood the darkness in which they were living. But the religious leaders were living in complete darkness. They thought they were okay. It's a thought that brings shivers down your spine when you realize that they thought they were the light of the world when in reality they were living in the darkness of the age.

I'm a follower of Jesus because He is the truth. I'm so glad that we've not followed a fable or some lofty but untrue story. Jesus is "True." I'm willing to risk my life on the fact that Jesus is the Son of God. I would never die for a fable, but I'm willing to give my life for the truth.

Too often today we hear people say that "doctrine" isn't important. That's nonsense. Of course it's important. If a teaching is truth, then it's a part of Jesus because He is the truth. If it's not true, then it's a part of the darkness. But Biblical teaching isn't just something to be believed with our minds. It's much more than that. It's something to be practiced in our lives. The real test of our faith is whether we live what we say. Revival is coming to the knowledge of the truth, applying that truth to our daily lives and then walking in the truth that we've come to know.

Christianity isn't a game that we play. Genuine Christianity is a life rooted in truth. It's not trying to impress others with our spirituality or religiosity. It's being willing to be searched in the dark parts of our hearts by the light of God's truth. It's repenting of what ever He shows us. It's then surrendering to the One who is called "Faithful and True." When we do that, our Christian life will be filled with reality. It's the reality of the life of Christ and reality of victory in our own lives. And that's something that's greatly needed in this generation - real Christians.
