A Boy Named Jerry Print E-mail
There are some people that you meet you will never forget all of your life. A young nine-year-old boy named Jerry was such a person for me.

Not long after my wife and I were married, I was asked to serve as interim pastor of a small rural church in South Louisiana. It was my first experience in church leadership, and I was taught a great lesson the young boy named Jerry.

Jerry didn't have the parents that loved him like I had. A deacon in our church had taken him into his home after he had been forsaken by his parents. The first Sunday that Jerry came to church, he gave his heart to Christ at the conclusion of the worship service. That day Jerry found a true Father - a Father that was true in His goodness and absolute in His love for His children.

Jerry immediately wanted to share the love of Jesus with everyone. He had a stuttering problem, but that didn't keep him from telling his friends about Jesus. Many times the other kids would laugh at him because he stuttered. But he would say to them, "D..d..don't d..do th..that. J..J..Jesus loves you." Even though it took him a while to do it, he shared Christ with all of his friends. I baptized more people that Jerry brought to Christ than any other person in the entire church.

I asked myself how Jerry could be so effective and have the greatest problem in speaking and communicating. Then I remembered what the book of I Corinthians. It said, "Our power is not in our persuasive words or in our eloquent speech but rather our power is in the message of the cross." Jerry understood that message better than anyone else. He had a God that loved him and he wanted the whole world to know the love of his Heavenly Father.

God wants to use you to bring others to Christ. You may feel inadequate. But you must always remember that the power to do that is not in your abilities to convince people, but rather in the power of the wonderful message of God's love. It's His great love for people. That's the place where God's power dwells. He loves the world so much that He would send His Son to die for our sins.

If you know the love of God, why don't you share that message with someone today?
