As I've traveled around the world to proclaim the message of Christ, I've discovered that there's a great battle raging for the hearts and minds of this generation. And at the center of that battle is truth. Two kingdoms are in conflict. The kingdom of God is founded upon the truth of God's Word while the kingdom of Satan is built upon lies and deceit.
This has never been more evident than during the dark days of communism in Eastern Europe. On many occasions when we would arrive at the Romanian border we would be asked three questions. The first one, "Do you have any weapons?". Then "Do you have any pornography?" And finally, "Do you have any Bibles?" All three questions were extremely important to the communists. Weapons could be used to overthrow an evil dictatorship. Pornography could undermine the family unit, which is the basic structure upon which any society is built. And the Bible is the source of all truth, and it shatters the kingdom of darkness lies and deceptions.
Nikolai Ceaucescu, Romania's evil dictator, was so fearful of the power of the truth of God's Word that he went to great extremes to get rid of the Bible. On one occasion border guards discovered an underground shipment of Bibles coming into the country. Ceaucescu ordered that the Bibles be used for toilet paper. On another occasion Ceaucescu henchman found a load of Bibles in a van. They tore the van apart and chopped it into pieces. Why do you think evil dictators fear the Bible so much? I believe that deep down they know it's the source of truth. And they know that the light of that truth will dispel the darkness of an empire built on deceit.
But permit me to ask you a question. Why is it that we who live in a free society and have access to the Bible spend so little time reading that great book? In a recent Gallup poll taken in America, a great many church going people didn't even know that Jesus was the person who preached the Sermon on the Mount. Many Christians have become undisciplined, and we stand at the threshold of losing the guiding light for our lives, family and society. The Psalmist said, "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Have we lost our lamp and our light? Now is the time to light the fire and let our little light shine. Let it shine. Let it shine.
