A Powerless People Print E-mail
Last week, I wrote of a prayerless pew being a signpost of our need for revival in this generation. Prayerlessness always leads to powerlessness. Prayer is the method through which we depend upon God. That dependence on Him always leads us to victory. When we find ourselves and the Christian community in general defeated and unable to overcome sinful desires, we can know that it's an indicator that we desperately need revival.

Quite often I hear advertisements from Christian groups saying something like this, "I became a Christian as a teenager, but I had no joy. Later I turned to drugs. Then I went to a certain counseling center, and now everything's okay." Or sometimes I hear someone say, "I was a successful pastor and well-respected Christian leader. But I became depressed. I came out of my depression when I attended a certain seminar."

Now it may be that the counseling center or seminar pointed the teenager or pastor to Jesus. However, I am greatly concerned that much of the Christian community today finds itself defeated and powerless over what old time, old fashioned pastors used to call sin. Christians no longer speak of the one who is called Wonderful Counselor meeting the deep needs of their hearts.

If we are to experience genuine revival in our generation then we must renew our vision of Christ as the All Sufficient One. If you find yourself struggling with sin, habits, and feelings that are not pleasing to God, then let me encourage you to pour out your heart to God. Look to Jesus to give you victory and be your victory.

To the fatherless He is our Father. To the sick, He's the Great Physician. To the dying, He's Eternal Life. To those worried about their future, He's the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. He is all and in all and is capable of meeting the deep needs of your heart. Now that's revival.

Are you defeated today? Perhaps it's a signpost showing you that you need to embark on the road of revival.
