Fruit That Remains Print E-mail
In 1989, I had the opportunity to lead a seminar at the Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization which was being held in Manila, Philippines. Christian leaders and missionaries from around the world gathered for the historic conference. One of the great joys that I experienced was meeting Christians from different cultures, nations, races and languages.
After I concluded my seminar, a number of leaders were asking if I would come to their countries and preach. However, I noticed a lady at the edge of the group who was waiting quietly and patiently. When everyone left, the lady stepped forward and asked, "Are you the same Sammy Tippit that was arrested in Chicago in 1970?"

"Yes" I responded. But I wondered who she was and how she knew about that incident. I had not mentioned that experience in my seminar. In 1970 a friend and I were witnessing to people about Christ in a nightclub district in Chicago. The clubs normally closed at 4 a.m. But God began to move as we shared Christ. People came under conviction of their sin and would not go into the clubs. As a result they began closing early.

Nightclub owners had policemen to arrest us. We later went to court, and the City of Chicago admitted to false arrest and dropped the charges.

I asked the lady, "How did you know about my arrest in Chicago?" She said, "I used to be a Go-Go dancer in one of the clubs. One night as I was walking down the street, you gave me a gospel tract. I even went to hear you preach once. Later I gave my heart to Christ. Now I am married, and my husband and I are missionaries, and we're attending the conference. I've prayed many times asking God to let me meet you again and say 'thank you'. Then I saw your name on the program. I just wanted come and introduce myself to you and say thanks for telling me about Jesus." She then walked away.

I was left dumb founded. I just stood there. After collecting my composure I found a quiet place to pour my heart out to God. I consider that moment as one of the great moments of life.

Jesus said that He chose us to go and bear fruit and that our fruit should remain. The greatest joy that you and I will have in eternity is when we meet someone who came to Christ because of our witness. Have you told someone about Jesus lately?
