The Prayer Of Faith Print E-mail
"Sir, do you believe that our city is under a curse?" was the question posed to me by the journalist. Her Siberian city had been built by slave labor during Stalin's regime. The streets upon which they walked had been built by slave labor. The apartments where they slept and ate had been built by slave labor. People had been sent to prison for their beliefs and many of them had died building this Siberian city of Norilsk.

When I went there to preach in the stadium of the city, there were only a handful of elderly Christians living there. Therefore we sent students from the Bible institute in Oradia, Romania to prepare for the evangelistic meetings and work with the new Christians after the crusade.

One week prior to my arrival these students went to every home in the city with an invitation to come to the crusade and to leave a gospel pamphlet. Consequently, the evangelistic meetings had the largest attendance ever in the history of any meeting in that stadium. I don't think I've ever experienced anything like what I saw there. When I gave the invitation for people to believe in Christ and follow Him, ninety five percent of the people in the stadium responded. It was overwhelming.

It was at the close of the service, when the journalist asked her question. I responded to her, "No, I don't believe your city is under a curse. I believe it is under a blessing. I'm convinced that many of those who worked and died here in those labor camps were Christians, and they prayed for this day. I believe that they prayed that one day the people who walked these streets and slept in these apartments would one day hear and receive the gospel. Today is that day. So this city is blessed."

What I didn't know when I said that was that the grandparents of many of those Bible college students had died in those Siberian prison camps. They never saw the blessing - the answer to their prayers, but their grandchildren were the first to bring the message of Christ to that Siberian city. Maybe you've prayed and it seems as though heaven is closed to your prayers. Remember the Bible says that, "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." You may not see the answer to your prayer right now. But you can be sure and certain that He will accomplish His will.
