Who Will Stand in the Gap?

During these past several months, I've tried to share with you the great burden of my heart. My soul cries out for the glory of God among the people of God - for a great spiritual renewal among God's people. I'm convinced that if we're to see a great renewal in this generation, we then desperately need a vision of God in His Holiness.
Duncan Campbell was mightily used of God from 1949-52 in a great revival that swept the Isle of Lewis off the Northern coast of Scotland. He defined spiritual revival by saying; "I do not need a time of spiritual entertainment with crowds gathering to enjoy an evening of gospel singing. I do not need sensational or spectacular advertising. I do not need high-pressure methods to get men into an inquiry room. Revival is a going of God among His people, an awareness of God among His people. An awareness of God laying hold of the community." Evidently Campbell knew what he was talking about.
During the Lewis revival, he'd been engaged in prayer with a group of about thirty people. They concluded the time of prayer about 2 o'clock in the morning only to discover that the entire village was on fire with the very presence of God. People were carrying chairs to the church in hopes of finding a place to sit down. People had awakened in the night under conviction of their sin and went to the police station because they didn't know what to do to right their wrongs.
That revival began in a prayer meeting. People prayed persistently and consistently but saw no impact in the community. Finally someone read Psalm 24, "Who may ascend unto the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in this Holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart." As people saw the absolute purity of God they were broken about their own impurities. That's where revival began in that small island, and that's where revival begins in your life and in your nation.
Do you have clean hands and a pure heart? Without that we'll never see the glory of God.
