DAILY VIDEO DEVOTIONAL
I had a friend named Leo who was one of the most courageous men for Christ I have ever met. Leo shared Christ with everyone. When I first met Leo, he had a ministry in the French Quarter in New Orleans. He witnessed to gangs, runaways, drug addicts, and anyone who would listen.
One day while we were having lunch, he left me at the table and returned about thirty minutes later. With a big smile, he said, “Praise God, Sammy! I went to the kitchen and preached to the cooks — and three of them gave their hearts to Christ.” God used Leo’s courage to challenge me in my walk with God.
One night after confiding in Leo that I didn’t have that same courage, I spent the entire night in prayer, and God dealt deeply with my heart. That night God cleansed me in two specific areas.
First, He showed me my sin. He showed me things I’d called problems and hang-ups. But they were what the Bible calls sin. I confessed and repented, and God forgave and cleansed me.
The second area that God dealt with was the root of my sin problem: my “self” problem. That night I took my wife and placed her in a casket. I took all my material possessions and placed them in that casket. I took my automobiles and all my clothes and money and placed them in the casket. Then I took all my dreams, ambitions, and desires and placed them in the casket. That night Sammy Tippit died.
I didn’t do it physically, but I did it spiritually. The apostle Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
Leo had also not been crucified physically, but he had been spiritually. He had learned to die daily to the old man in him — and allow the life of Christ to be manifested in him. There he found victory and courage. Courage comes from simply allowing Christ to fill us with His life.
That day I learned a great lesson. If you are going to be filled with courage, you must be emptied of sin and self. Then and only then will Christ fill you with Himself and with His courage.
Acts : Chapter 4
23) On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24) When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25) You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 26) The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one.[b]’[c] 27) Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. 28) They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. 29) Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30) Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31) After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. The Believers Share Their Possessions
Book of the Month
Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe. For all other books…
