DAILY VIDEO DEVOTIONAL
“Then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:10, 12)
After I placed my faith in Jesus and began following Him, my heart was aflame with His love. I wanted everyone to know and experience His matchless grace and power. I began going to the places I’d hung out before coming to Christ. I would go anywhere to speak with people about Christ.
One night three friends and I went to a nightclub and asked for permission to preach the gospel. The bartender thought that we’d been drinking and said he couldn’t permit us to do that. We assured him we hadn’t been drinking, but that our hearts were filled with the love of Jesus. He told us we would have to speak with the owner of the club, then directed us to his office.
Surprisingly, the owner gave us permission to conduct a mini worship service in the nightclub. We were thrilled. As new believers, we were excited with the opportunity to tell people what God could do in their lives. We knew that only God could have opened such a door.
I stood and began to introduce our small band of new followers of Jesus to the people. “We’re a group of young people who would like to hold a worship service here tonight,” I said. But no one listened. Everyone was drinking and talking. Then I blurted out, “And we’ve come here tonight to tell you about Jesus.”
It’s amazing what happens in a place like that when you mention the name of Jesus. Everyone put down their drinks and looked up at me thinking, How in the world did he get in here?!
I began proclaiming the gospel of Jesus. And I’d learned something I’d never known before that evening: there’s incredible power in the name of Jesus. It’s amazing what the name of Jesus will do. You can mention the name of the world’s great religious leaders and no one will think anything about it. You can mention Buddha or Mohammed, and no one will react. But just mention the name Jesus and watch what happens. People will become angry, sad, or glad.
There’s wonder-working power in the name of Jesus. It’s the name that’s above all names. It’s the name at which every knee will one day bow and that every tongue will one day confess as the Lord. It’s the name on which a person can call — and never again be the same.
Not long after my experience in that nightclub, a drug addict called on the name of Jesus. She had been left hopeless by her addiction. The doctors gave her no hope. Psychiatrists gave her no hope. Law enforcement officers said there was no hope for her. But when she called on the name of Jesus, her life was never again the same. She was set free from the slavery of sin and addiction to drugs — by that powerful name.
There’s salvation in no other name. There’s deliverance in no other name. The Savior was given the name Jesus. Oh, what a wonderful, powerful name. Why don’t you call on His name today? There’s victory in the name of Jesus.
Acts : Chapter 4
5) The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. 6) Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and others of the high priest’s family. 7) They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” 8) Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9) If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10) then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11) Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’[a] 12) Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” 13) When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
