DAILY VIDEO DEVOTIONAL
I’ve been writing about revival in countries around the world: places like Romania, East Germany, Nagaland, and Siberia. But you may be asking if such a spiritual awakening is possible in North America or Western Europe. Not only is it possible, but it’s actually happened. In recent decades we’ve seen a touch of revival in both North America and Western Europe.
In February 1970, there was a move of the Spirit of God across Asbury College and Seminary, in the rural community of Wilmore, Kentucky. Several students had been praying for several months for revival on the campus, and a spirit of expectancy grew as the students prayed. But no one anticipated what would happen during the 10:00 a.m. chapel service on February 3, 1970.
The dean of the college felt led of God not to speak at the chapel as had been planned, but opened the service for testimonies. At that one defining moment, there was an extraordinary move of God’s Spirit. The chapel service that normally lasted for one hour continued for 185 hours, without interruption. At any time of the day or night, people could be found at the altar. People were confessing sin and mending broken relationships.
The word spread quickly to other Christian institutions about what was happening. People began to come to Asbury from all around the United States. Teams of students from Asbury were sent to other Christian universities and seminaries. A friend was a student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, when students from Asbury came to that campus and shared testimony. Scores of students found themselves on their faces before God, crying for forgiveness. My friend was among them.
I had the opportunity to speak at the Asbury campus just a couple of weeks after this awesome move of God. When I was returning to my seat, I heard something behind me. I turned around and saw 200 students at the altar. It was an awe-inspiring time. I realized at that moment that revival is possible in America. God is able and quite willing.
The question I pose to you today is this: “How hungry are you for moral renewal and spiritual awakening?” Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” (Matthew 5:6). The condition for revival has nothing to do with geography, but everything to do with the hunger and thirst of your heart.
Isaiah : Chapter 55
1) “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2) Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3) Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. 4) See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a ruler and commander of the peoples. 5) Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations you do not know will come running to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor.” 6) Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
Book of the Month
Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe. For all other books…
