As I travel throughout the world, I enjoy learning the history of other countries, especially in relationship to Christianity. Sometimes that history is not very pretty.
Several years ago, I was preaching evangelistic meetings in Cuba. God had moved in a special way, and many people had come to Christ. During the evenings we would preach in the city where we were staying, but during the day we visited a smaller coastal town to minister.
There seemed to be a very special move of God’s Spirit in that small town. Many responded to the message. The pastor said, “It was like a spiritual explosion had gone off in the center of town.” After lunch, they brought us to a historical sight they were eager for us to see.
There was a statue of an Indian who had stood against the Conquistadors. When they had landed on the island, the Spaniards had tried to force all of the natives to become Christians. When they refused, they would often be executed. The Spaniards gave them an opportunity to recant and become Christians. If they refused to become Christians, then they were killed.
One time an Indian was about to be executed for not becoming a Christian. The Conquistadors gave him one final chance: “Would you become a Christian and live?”
The Indian asked his executioners, “Are you Christians?”
“Yes, of course,” they said.
“If you are Christians,” the Indian said, “then I prefer to die and go to hell.”
His story broke my heart. But I realized how often it’s true. The only standard by which many will ever judge Christianity is our lives. I wonder what decision they will make, based on our lives, character, and conduct. If they choose to go to hell, may it be because of their rebellion and not our hypocritical Christianity.
Our character and lives ought to draw people to Jesus, not lead them into rebellion. Why don’t you ask God to work in your heart today? Ask Him to make you a person who attracts people to Jesus Christ. Your life can be a positive witness for Christ — and not a negative one. Which one is it?

 Joshua : Chapter 1
1)  After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2)  “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3)  I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4)  Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5)  No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6)  Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7)  “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8)  Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9)  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Book of the Month

Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe.  For all other books…
