DAILY VIDEO DEVOTIONAL
Often I am asked how and why I began traveling internationally. It all began in 1970 in a high-crime area of Chicago. My wife, Tex, and I were living in the ghetto and ministering to young people on the streets of that great city. Every morning we would spend time praying with our staff. We would take a different nation each week and pray for that country.
One morning we were praying for Germany. As we prayed, God broke my heart as well as one of my colleagues’ heart, for the nation. We kept praying until late that evening. We both sensed that God was leading us to go to Germany to preach the gospel. But we had several problems. First, we didn’t speak German. Second, we didn’t know anyone in Germany. Finally, we didn’t have any money to get there. The only things we had were broken hearts — and access to the throne of God.
We prayed through the night, and I remembered that I had a list of English-speaking pastors in Germany, as well as their telephone numbers. I chose one pastor’s name and number at random. He had never heard of me, and he wasn’t very encouraging. But two weeks later, I received a letter from him. Not long after I spoke with him on the telephone, this pastor read of our ministry in Chicago. God touched his heart, and he invited me to speak at a pastor’s conference in Germany.
God answered our prayers, and He opened the doors for us to preach throughout Germany. There was only one remaining problem. We didn’t have money to travel to Germany. Later, a schoolteacher came to our office, wanting to speak to me. As he had been having his time alone with God, the Lord spoke deeply to his heart. He had been saving his money, and God led him to take it out of the bank and give it to us. I couldn’t believe it.
I learned one great lesson. When we know we’re in the will of God, we can trust God to meet our needs. It’s amazing that five decades and six continents later, we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of people come to Christ. It all began at a prayer meeting.
Spend time with God, and you will begin to feel what He feels and do what He desires you to do. Why don’t you spend some time with God today and let Him break your heart for a lost world?
Deuteronomy : Chapter 8
1) Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. 2) Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3) He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Book of the Month
Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe. For all other books…
