Renewing Your Heart
Welcome to the devotion time today. I want to speak to you about a refreshing that comes in the middle of the race of life. In Hebrews, chapter 12, verse 1, it says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses…” Now who are those witnesses? Those are people who had run the race before we have, the great men and women of faith, those who had walked with God for many years in the Old Testament. It’s says, “Let us now lay aside the sin and the weight that so easily clings to us.” Then it says, “…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
So how do you run with endurance? How do you run the race that God has given you to run in this life? Well, first of all, one of the things that I learned when I began to run and do some marathon training was that in every marathon, there are refreshment tables, and if you don’t stop to be refreshed in the middle of the race, you’re going to be in trouble. You’re going to become dehydrated, and that is one of the most dangerous things that can happen. So you need a daily refreshing that comes from the presence of the Lord. So as we begin these times of devotions, I
want to encourage you to begin to seek God every day for a renewing, a refreshing, of your heart.
There have been three times in my own life where there were major times of refreshing, where God came and ministered to me. One of the things I discovered is that in a certain way, God wants to refresh us every single day. That’s the purpose of these devotions. It is so that you may have a time where you sit alone and you drink from the waters that flow from God’s throne. I want to encourage you to make this a part of your lifestyle. Not just running the race, but taking time to stop at God’s refreshment table and be renewed in your heart. Let him renew your mind, your spirit, your soul, your body. As you do that, you’ll see God do great things in your life. You’ll have strength to run, not just for a short while, not just a mid-distance, but you’ll be able to run the whole way.
One of the things I have discovered in my own life is that it is these times of refreshing and the presence of the Lord that give me the strength to keep going and to finish the race and run to my full potential. What I want to do when I finish this race is know that I’ve run to my full potential. And to run to your full potential, you have to be refreshed along the way. So make this a habit every day, stopping at God’s refreshment table.

Isaiah : Chapter 40
27)  Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”? 28)  Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29)  He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30)  Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31)  but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Book of the Month

Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe.  For all other books…
