Some people you meet, you remember all of your life. A nine-year-old named Jerry was such a person.
Soon after my wife and I were married, I served as interim pastor of a small, rural church in South Louisiana. It was my first experience in church leadership, and Jerry taught me a great lesson.
Jerry didn’t have parents who loved him. After he had been forsaken by his parents, a deacon in our church had taken him into his home. The first Sunday that Jerry came to church, he gave his heart to Christ at the conclusion of the worship service. That day Jerry found a true Father — a Father that was true in His goodness and absolute in His love for His children.
Jerry immediately wanted to share the love of Jesus with everyone. He had a stuttering problem, but that didn’t keep him from telling his friends about Jesus. Many times the other kids would laugh at him because he stuttered. But he would say to them, “D… d… .don’t d… do th… that. J… J… Jesus loves you.” Though it took him a while to do it, he shared Christ with all of his friends. I baptized more people that Jerry brought to Christ than any other person in the entire church.
I asked myself how Jerry could be so effective and yet have the greatest problem in speaking. Then I remembered what 1 Corinthians says: “Our power is not in our persuasive words or in our eloquent speech but rather our power is in the message of the cross.” Jerry understood that message better than anyone else. He had a God that loved him, and he wanted the whole world to know the love of his heavenly Father.
God wants to use you to bring others to Christ. You may feel inadequate. So you must always remember, the power to do that is not in your ability to convince people, but in the power of the wonderful message of God’s love. It’s His great love for people. That’s the place where God’s power dwells. He loves the world so much, He sent His Son to die for our sins.
If you know the love of God, why don’t you share that message with someone today?

1 Corinthians : Chapter 2
1)  And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.[a] 2)  For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3)  I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4)  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5)  so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit

Book of the Month

Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe.  For all other books…
