DAILY VIDEO DEVOTIONAL
Making Plans
Today in our devotions, I want to speak to you about Making Plans. We spoke in our last devotional time about goals, but goals will go nowhere without plans. There’s an old saying that says, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” You don’t want to fail. You need to make plans.
Now God has given you goals. There are some things you have in your personal life (your heart), there are some things in your home, and there are some things in your health you need to change. If you have those goals, then you have to make plans to how you’re going to get there. Let me just give you kind of an idea of what I’m talking about.
When I started running and I wanted to run the Greek marathon, I started making plans. How was I going to get 26.2 miles? How was I going to achieve that? Well, I made some plans long- term. I found a book. I took that book. I studied that book. It had a six-month plan for running. In order to do that, then I had to make some weekly plans. Then I had to make some daily plans. That meant I had to carve out time. In order to carve out time… You see, there are only 24 hours in a day. If you’re going to take something and put in to those 24 hours, then you have to let go of something. You can’t go both ways, because 24 hours…period. I had to plan my life. I had to restructure my life.
Organizing your life is so important. Then I found this was where many Christians really fail, because so many times we talk about the Holy Spirit and the power of God. I’ve been talking about that.
It is the Holy Spirit, and it is God’s power, but if you don’t organize your life in such a way that you have quality time alone with God, if you don’t organize your life in such a way that you have time for your family, if you don’t organize your life in such a way that you’re able to do the exercise and all that…
It’s going to take a lot of organization, because some of you have not had those things in your life. You’re going to have to let go of some things, and you’re going to have to put some things in. What you have to do is you have to take your calendar (your schedule), and you have to look at things. What’s important? What’s not important?
We’re going to talk about that a little later. You have to organize it, and you have to drop some things and put some other things in. You make the plans, but it’s only God who brings it to pass. It’s God who gives you the power to do that. You need to make plans so you will succeed in those goals God has given you.
Acts : Chapter 1
15) In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16) and said, “Brothers and sisters,[d] the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17) He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.” 18) (With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19) Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20) “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms: “‘May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,’[e] and, “‘May another take his place of leadership.’[f] 21) Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22) beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.” 23) So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24) Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25) to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26) Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
Book of the Month
Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe. For all other books…
